my friend an i subcontract for ETC as landscapers. we cut all their switch houses all over jasper, ellijay, and blue ridge and i've always been nervous about running across a bear. well yesterday we were on ray mt rd about a 1/4 mile from 515 and as we turned a curve we came up on a big black bear just walking around in the middle of the rd. judging by his size we guessed he weighed around 500 lbs. he didn't seem too worried about our truck until we pulled within about 15ft of him then he slowly turned and wondered off the rd and up into the woods looking back a couple of times as he walked off then disappeared into the forest. which would have been cool but our next switch was on the other side of the woods so we both were constantly watching the woods as we were cutting. it was an eye opening experience for both of us we've always heard and known there were bears out there but never thought anything of it. now we're constantly on the look out!

We were vacationing at the last resort, in Blue Ridge 8/5-8/13/2009. The bear was on our entrance porch about dawn monday and then returned wed night below our balcony/porch and then made a couple more visits to the entrance porch during the night. I cant say for sure if it was the same bear. We were so excited. We got pictures of him from the balcony/porch, but of course wasn't foolish enough to open the cabin door on the entrance side. It was truly awesome. We hope to return to your lovely North Georgia Mountains next year. There are not enough words to describe the beauty of North Georgia and the wonderful people who live there. My family and I hope to return again and again. We cant wait to enjoy the beauty all around and maybe we will be lucky enough to see another black bear.

This reminds me why I want to have a cabin up there one day! Great stuff! Seeing a bear while trout fishing would be about as cool as it gets.
